Organization Updates

March 14, 2024

Dear Friends and Supporters,

MNTP remains deeply committed to supporting the transgender community in the most effective and impactful ways possible. After careful consideration and extensive discussions with community members, partners, and volunteers, we are announcing a shift in our approach to assisting the trans community.

Resource Lists

Effective immediately, MNTP.org will transition from accepting donations and offering monetary aid to developing and offering comprehensive resource lists designed to support trans individuals. This decision has not been made lightly, and we want to ensure our community understands the reasons behind this shift and what it means for the future.

Why the Change?

Our mission has always been to provide support in ways that are sustainable, accessible, and most beneficial to the trans community. Over time, requests for assistance have become far greater than our available funds. While we have been able to secure several regular donors and two very generous donations from humanitarian organizations, the need far outweighs the money that we have been able to raise. We appreciate the donations we have received so far. As a 100 percent volunteer run organization, every penny we have raised has been used to support members of the trans community, and we are so grateful to our supporters.

That said, despite our best efforts, we are unable to meet the rapidly-growing demand for funds. Instead, we want to change our approach to better support those in need. By curating lists of vetted resources, we aim to address a broader spectrum of needs, from healthcare and legal assistance to housing and employment opportunities.

What to Expect
Our small (but dedicated) team of volunteers is diligently working on compiling extensive resource lists that include but are not limited to:
- Healthcare services, including gender-affirming care
- Legal assistance for name changes, gender marker changes, and rights protection
- Educational scholarships and employment opportunities tailored for trans individuals
- Support groups and mental health resources
- Safe housing options
- Monetary support from partner organizations

These lists will be made available on our website and will be regularly updated to ensure their relevance and comprehensiveness.

How You Can Help
This new chapter opens up various avenues for our supporters to contribute. Whether it's through sharing resources, volunteering your time to help us curate and verify information, or a few small donations to help pay for our website, your involvement is crucial to our success and, more importantly, to the well-being of the trans community.

Looking Forward
Change is never easy, but we are excited about the opportunities this strategic shift presents. We believe that empowering our community with knowledge and resources is a vital step towards a more inclusive and supportive society for trans individuals. We thank you for your ongoing support and invite you to join us in this new chapter of empowerment and support.

With gratitude,
MNTP

PS:
Along with the challenges, we want to share our successes too. In the short time we offered direct support, we managed to improve and save lives. Here is a quote from one of the people we were able to fully relocate thanks to our incredible community.

Testimony

“The MN transplant project saved our lives! They helped me get up here and found me temp housing while I figured out our next steps. I got my partner a bus ticket up here, the Transplant Project helped us with temp housing, transportation, and connected us to other resources that greatly helped us get by. This is the most accepting state I've ever been. My life has been completely unstable after being disowned by my family over me being trans, but I finally feel like I have some stability here and will be able to do something meaningful with my life. I rarely experienced transphobia here in Minneapolis, people here are overly nice if anything.”- Tia
